Past Credit Debits And Qualifying For Auto Finance Loans

My sister lost her job several years ago and was not able to pay all of her bills.  She has a good job now and wants to purchase a new car but was not sure if her past would affect her credit rating.  When she contacted the Auto Finance agent he told her that as long as she has an income and has taken care of all her debits he is pretty sure he would be able to get her qualified for the loan. He told her they could pre-qualify her and when she finds the car she wants to buy the only thing she will have to do is come in and sign the contract.
