Value stream maps or vsm mapping is, as the name implies, of value to the process of mapping.  In fact value stream maps can be of great benefit to your business, particularly in a production environment.

 The best and most obvious benefits of value stream or process mapping are watching the typical progress made after applying mapping procedures.  Employees are able to see their contribution and may even choose to grade themselves in regards to their performance over time.

The mapping guidelines can be adapted by the employees themselves.  They are the most likely candidates, as they should know their jobs inside and out.  They can usually offer valuable suggestions to make in regards to just where and how to make any improvements.
