Installing A Backsplash In Your Kitchen: Ideas You May Want To See

July 7th, 2010 by admin

Your backsplash is a very important design element and you might want to take care to ensure that you start out with backsplash ideas that are nothing less than outstanding. Here’s how you may want to proceed next.Lay out the tiles on the counter and inspect for any errors. Draw a centerline across the backsplash surface Mark the center of the backsplash surface. Using a level, mark the lower edge of the first row from the bottom.Start laying from the center. First spread the mastic with a trowel, then with a shifting movement place the tiles applying slight pressure. Insert spacers between the tiles for grouting and for uniform spacing. Now start laying the tiles first on one side of the center line, then on the other. Lay only 4 to 5 square foot at a time so that the mastic remains wet. Work quickly, otherwise the mastic might dry. Always keep the tile clean of any mastic, using the recommended solvent.Wait over night for the adhesive to dry before grouting. Remove the spacers once the mastic is dry. Using a rubber grout float to push the grout into the spaces between the tiles. After grouting is over use a wet sponge to remove all grout from the tiles. Move the sponge diagonally across the grout lines.Wait for the grout to completely dry. Then wipe off any remaining grout dust from the tiles. You may apply a sealant to protect the grout.
