Tiki bars – have a island vibe

January 23rd, 2009 by admin

Although, playing the original music by famous artists like Arthur Lyman, Martin Denny and Les Baxter is the ideal thing to do at Tiki Lounge, but any traditional Hawaiian music will prove no less in setting the mood right.

There has always been this mystical quality about Tiki bars, which, besides making it just a practical bar, gives a calm and serene feeling, reminding us of beautifully palm filled beaches and of fisherman, providing us with an atmosphere, which invites story telling over rum-filled drinks. If you’ve ever been in an authentic Tiki Bar, then you know it is always rooted in an Island theme. Beyond that, the bar’s owner is free to imprint his or her own stamp of originality on it, guided by individual tastes.  This can include nets, boating and scuba gear, shells, starfish, driftwood, and anything else that might wash up on the beach.

If you want the atmosphere of a tiki paradise in your own backyard, a tiki bar is an absolute must have.  While some people choose to buy them others feel that is a bit expensive and turn to the internet for resources on tiki bar designs yourself.

Tiki Torches give off mysterious and exotic ambiance and are simply bamboo sticks and paper lanterns. This type of lighting along with the island themed background decor will enhance the jungle feel of your Tiki Bar.No Tiki Bar is complete without at least one Tiki Statue or Tiki Mask which are excellent symbols of the primitive way of life on the islands. Pay tribute to the Polynesian gods with some of these artifacts which come in just about any form you could imagine. There are sufficient replicas available on the market within a very wide price range, but an authentic Tiki Statue or Tiki Mask is of course the ultimate. Tiki Bar offers some exotic and traditional rum drinks like Mai Tai, Singapore Sling and Scorpion Bowl. Look for colorful, fruity drinks made out of coconut or pineapple to accommodate your Tiki bar. Serve every drink in a Tiki mug and garnish it with fresh fruit and mint with a tropical drink umbrella. Tiki Mugs are ceramic mugs that often feature a figure, face or other tropical decorations imposed on the front of the mug.Serving grilled food like fruit-glazed meats, kabobs and any coconut flavored dish, with a South Pacific flair, has always been a speciality at Tiki bars. Trader’s Vic, one of the original Tiki Bars pioneered fusion cuisine by introducing island flavors to Chinese and American dishes which opened a whole new variety of foods that can be served at Tiki Bars and still keep within the tradition. Sweet and sour chicken en brochette is a classic example of this type of cuisine but any seafood with sweet glazes and plenty of fresh fruit will do your Tiki Bar justice.
