The .Net programming framework was created by Microsoft about 5 years ago as a comprehensive tool set to make web ready applications. This tool set was meant to complete with Java, javascript, and the various other non microsoft technoloiges that compete for creating web services. Microsoft was famously let to the web party, having only 2 people in the entire company working on Internet related projects in 1994. Within a couple of years, EVERY employee in the company was in some way working on web related projects. Fortunately, Microsoft was able to right the ship and now has a very strong web strategy.
